Due to overwhelming demand registration is now CLOSED. With over 150 registered delegates registered, the team here are busy finalising the arrangements and preparing materials ready for the event.

If you are still interested in attending, please email Jodie Phillips and we will add your details to a reserve list.

We will be holding our sixth National Intelligence Event on Thursday 22 November 2018 at Cardiff City Stadium.

We have put together an exciting programme with a range of national partners.

    What’s it about?

New legislation, new expectations and different ways of working mean those delivering public services in Wales need to think differently about how they evaluate and measure the effectiveness and impact of policies, actions and interventions. This event will explore what this means, provide practical ideas and solutions and show how these might be applied. There will also be an opportunity for attendees to get their questions and issues around this topic raised and discussed.

    Should you attend?

    You should attend if you:

    • Play a leadership role in a public body, public services board or other organisation delivering public services.
    • Have responsibility for, or support, the delivery of well-being plans - including the area plans and local well-being plans.
    • Want to know more about measuring and evaluating the impact of policies and interventions.

It has come to our attention here at Data Cymru (formally Data Unit ~ Wales) that our old email addresses (@dataunitwales.gov.uk) are being used to send spam/potentially malicious mail.

Please be wary of mail being sent from staff.member@dataunitwales.gov.uk – mail would now be sent from staff.member@data.cymru.

The emails generally have spelling mistakes in them – don’t have our Data Cymru signature – and may contain zips/pdfs. Please be vigilant with emails claiming to be from our old @dataunitwales.gov.uk email address, and also please be assured that we haven’t been compromised.

Please contact us if you’re in any doubt.

We all know that an organisation’s workforce is its most valuable asset. This is particularly true in the public sector where the majority of employees are directly responsible for supporting individuals and communities to thrive. From providing your children with a quality education and making sure your local area is safe and clean to ensuring those who need care and support receive it, these individuals play a key role in helping us achieve well-being. Wouldn’t it be good to know more about the workforce that play such an important role in all our lives? Well, look no further…

    Putting names to faces…

Well, not quite, but this week we have published a new ‘Local authority workforce’ dataset in InfoBaseCymru. The dataset, which can be found in the ‘Local government’ theme, provides some headline information about the workforce of each Welsh local authority, including age, gender and salary. It will help you understand the characteristics of the current workforce and how this might change in the future.

    Tell me more…

The data has been published as open data under the terms of the Open Government License (OGL), which means that the data is clear and easily accessible so that anyone can use, re-use and/or repurpose it free of charge in any format they choose.

It is part of a wider initiative to ‘open up’ data about the workforce across the entire public sector. Welsh Government have also published the same information about their workforce and we expect other organisations to make their data available over the next few months. Further information about this initiative can be found in Welsh Government’s recent ‘Data and Digital’ blog.

You can find local authority workforce data in InfoBaseCymru.

Welsh Government’s data is available in StatsWales.

The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the 2017 mid-year estimates of population on 28 June 2018.

The estimates are available at single year of age and at local authority level. We have included them in InfoBaseCymru as broad age bands for easier use. If you need data for different age bands please contact us.

For more information on population data please contact Jenny Murphy.

  • CandidatesWelsh Government have published a report summarising the demographic characteristics of elected councillors and unelected candidates for the local government elections in 2017.

In line with the 2011 Local Government Measures, we supported local authorities to carry out a survey of local government councillors and candidates during, and following, the May 2017 local elections. The survey provides information on the demographic profile of local authority councillors and candidates and was also carried out in 2012.

For more information on the survey or the report please contact Jenny.Murphy@Data.Cymru.
