  • A website to help people access local support services in Wales
    and find the information and advice they need to improve their well-being is now available.

    Launched at the National Social Services Conference on 30 June, the Dewis Cymru website is an important first for Wales - a single, clear and reliable point of access that can be used by members of the public, as well as care service professionals across Wales, to help support people achieve their well-being goals.

    The website forms part of the ongoing delivery of the Social Services and Well-being (Wales) Act, which highlights how the provision of high quality information plays a central role in helping people remain independent, manage their well-being and shape the care services they receive.

    Dewis Cymru currently has local information for North Wales, Cardiff, the Vale of Glamorgan, Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil. Local information for other areas will be added soon.

    Visit Dewis Cymru at www.dewis.wales.

    Follow us on Twitter @dewiswales and like us on Facebook.com/dewiswales or contact us via email at help@dewis.wales.

    Do you know how many people live in your authority?

    The Office for National Statistics (ONS) published the 2015 mid-year estimates of population on 23 June 2016.

    The estimates are available at single year of age and at local authority level. We have included them here as broad age bands for easier use.

    If you need data for different age bands please contact us.

    For more information on population data please contact Jenny Murphy.

  • We were commissioned by Welsh Government to review the existing Early Years Pupil Deprivation Grant (EYPDG) allocation mechanism and make recommendations as to whether the current approach could be practicably improved.

    In undertaking the review we considered the:

    • suitability of the current method for allocating the grant;
    • examined the approach adopted in other countries for funding this type of support and considered their suitability in the Welsh context; and
    • considered some potential alternative approaches in detail, including providing a picture of what the allocation might look like; and
    • sought the views of local authorities and learning settings.

    Our review has not identified any fundamental issues with the current allocation method for EYPDG. However, we have identified a small number of potential improvements to the current approach.
